Head of Technical Architecture

Role Overview

Are you a seasoned technical expert with a passion for leading innovative projects? The Data & Systems (D&S) team is seeking a Head of Technical Architecture to drive the delivery of the North West Secure Data Environment (NWSDE).

As the Head of Technical Architecture, you will take ownership of the NWSDE project and programme architecture, ensuring consistency with the D&S Technical Architecture (TA) while pragmatically meeting business requirements. You will lead the technical/platform team within D&S, making credible technical decisions and communicating with sensitivity and diplomacy to ensure the right technical direction is followed.

Role Scope:

• Full time hours - 37.5 per week
• A fixed-term agreement for 6 months
• A remote work schedule

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and deliver technical change, challenging the status quo and anticipating problems.
• Monitor implementation progress and ensure architecture consistency with D&S TA.
• Provide leadership to the technical/platform team within D&S.
• Operate as a point of technical authority, making credible technical decisions.
• Communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Define and deliver appropriate architecture deliverables.
• Work across different programmes and layers of architecture (e.g., information, application, technical) as needed.

Technical Skills:

• Azure Dev Ops: Infrastructure as Code (IaC) – Terraform / Bicep / Az Cli / Docker / GitHub / Bash script / Powershell
• Azure Technical Architect: Azure Administrator / Cyber Security / Networking / Azure Virtual Desktop / Cost monitoring / Diagnostics / Databricks
• Azure Technical Architect: Data Processing – (SQL / Data Factory / Azure Virtual Desktop)
• Proven abilities in scripting with PowerShell, C#, VB, SQL

Knowledge & Qualifications:

• Educated to Master’s level in relevant subject.
• Significant hands-on experience in technical architecture.
• Ability to lead and deliver technical change.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate with sensitivity and diplomacy.
• Proven ability to define and deliver architecture deliverables.
• Flexibility to work across different programmes and layers of architecture.
