Job Description

Head of Engineering - AI (Artificial Intelligence)

Location: Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom

This role is a senior leadership position overseeing the technology function across multiple value streams. The successful candidate will drive technical excellence, delivery velocity, and innovation, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of business features. The Head of Engineering will oversee the technology function, align with business objectives, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Technology Leadership: Develop and implement technology strategies to elevate leadership within the organization, showcasing expertise and thought leadership.
  • Hands-on: Hands on development experience (ideally 20-40%) and strong technical savviness; drive cultural change through AI.
  • Delivery Excellence: Ensure rapid delivery of business features with measurable outcomes, such as user engagement and transaction metrics.
  • Technology Strategy: Collaborate with stakeholders to shape technology solutions for large transformation programs, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Team Management: Mentor and coach engineering leads and principal engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical mastery.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with product owners, technology owners, and business stakeholders to align engineering outcomes with strategic goals.
  • Innovation & Value Creation: Drive initiatives to maintain a competitive edge and client retention.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven track record in building and scaling microservices architecture.
  • Deep expertise in technologies such as Springboot, NodeJS, Python, Angular, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and platform engineering.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in Agile methodologies and tools like Jira / Confluence.

Required Skills

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform).
  • Familiarity with BDD/TDD and API contract testing (e.g., PACT).
  • Exposure to frontend frameworks and micro frontends.
  • Strategic mindset with ability to quantify business value through technology.
  • Hands on & Tech Savvy
