Accounting & Finance Manager

• Salary: £42,839 – £47,181 (FTE)
• Hours: Full-time, 37 hrs/week, 52 weeks/year
• Contract: Permanent
• Reports to: School Business Manager
• Line management: Up to 2 Finance Assistants

Make a real impact in education. We’re seeking a skilled and motivated Accounting & Finance Manager to lead our finance function and ensure strong financial stewardship. You’ll oversee day-to-day operations, deliver accurate management accounts, support budget holders, and drive value for money — all while helping shape the financial future of our organisation.

What you’ll do:

• Lead and manage the finance team, ensuring high performance and accuracy
• Oversee financial operations, including purchase orders, invoicing, BACS, reconciliations, and reporting
• Produce monthly management accounts, budget monitoring, and cash flow reports
• Lead year-end accounts, audits, and statutory returns (including VAT)
• Maintain effective financial systems and ensure compliance with trust regulations
• Partner with HR and Admin teams to ensure robust financial control
• Drive process improvements and evaluate systems for efficiency

What we’re looking for:

• Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) or equivalent experience
• Strong track record in financial management and reporting
• Leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a small team
• Excellent organisational, analytical, and communication skills
• IT proficiency, ideally with experience of financial systems (ACCESS, Google Docs/Sheets a plus)
• Knowledge of VAT and school finance regulations (desirable but not essential)
