Job Description

SEND Teaching Assistant Location: Hoddesdon Salary: starting from £19,100 per year, pro rata . Contract: Permanent Start Date: September 2025 About the Role: Horizon Teachers is seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) across all Key Stages. You’ll work 1:1 and with small groups, providing essential support to learners with complex needs, including non-verbal communication and physical or medical challenges. Key Responsibilities: Deliver 1:1 and small-group support tailored to pupils with PMLD, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and medical needs Assist with personal care, feeding, mobility (including hoisting/wheelchair use) Support teachers in delivering a sensory-based, adapted curriculum Use communication tools such as Makaton, symbols, AAC devices, and signs Help foster a safe, calm, and engaging learning environment What We’re Looking For: Experience supporting pupils with PMLD, complex needs, or non-verbal communication Confidence in personal care, manual handling, and feeding Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence Ability to swim, required to support pupils in one swimming lesson per week.
