Amazon Devices is an innovative research and development company that designs and engineers high-profile devices like the Kindle family of products, Fire Tablets, Fire TV, Health & Wellness, Amazon Echo, and Astro products. This is an exciting opportunity to join Amazon in developing state-of-the-art techniques that bring Generative AI on edge for our consumer products. We are looking for an exceptional Science Manager to join our Applied Science team and help develop the next generation of edge models, optimize them, and co-design with custom ML hardware based on a revolutionary architecture. Key job responsibilities

• Manage a team of 5+ scientists working on quantize, prune, distill, and finetune Gen AI models to optimize for edge platforms.
• Create a 3+ year science roadmap in the domain of edge intelligence.
• Focus on rapid maturation of science to build products and integrate them with Echo family devices.
• Work with stakeholders and partners to define roles and responsibilities.
• Fundamentally understand Amazon’s Neural Edge Engine to invent optimization techniques.
• Apply principles of Information Theory, Scientific Computing, Deep Learning Theory, and Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics.
• Manage teams involved in training (preferably pretraining) Gen AI models.
• Foster collaboration with the compiler team, fellow applied scientists in the finetuning team, hardware architects, and product teams to build the best ML-centric solutions for our devices.
• Support team publications in open source and represent Amazon at key ML conferences such as NeurIPS, ICLR, and MLSys.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 3+ years of experience managing scientists or machine learning engineers.
• Knowledge of ML, NLP, Information Retrieval, and Analytics.
• Knowledge of machine learning approaches and algorithms.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business applications.
• Experience building complex software systems involving deep learning, machine learning, and computer vision that have been successfully delivered to customers.
• PhD degree.
