Job Title: Teaching Assistant (Learning Support Assistant – Grade 2)

Location: Havering, East London

Employment Type: Full-time | Term-time Only

About the Role:

As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with class teachers and the SENDCo to support pupils with a variety of needs—including physical, behavioural, medical, and emotional. You’ll play a key role in ensuring all students have equal access to learning and opportunities for development.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and group support to pupils based on their individual education plans.
  • Assist in classroom management and preparation of learning resources.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional well-being in line with school policies.
  • Support pupils with special educational needs during lessons, break times, and off-site activities.
  • Assist with personal care, first aid, and implementing specific medical or behavioural strategies when required.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals to support pupil progress.


What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience supporting children with special educational needs.
  • A caring, patient, and flexible attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Teaching/Classroom Support, or significant experience in a similar role.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and child protection.


Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum, especially in literacy and numeracy.
  • Understanding of child development and behaviour management strategies.
  • Previous experience in a primary school setting.
