Job Description

Job Title: Deputy Director - Finance Salary: £76,000-£117,800 (SCS1 grade)
Location: Hybrid, c.Allen Lane are supporting the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in their search for a permanent Deputy Director - Finance . This is an SCS1 grade position, where you will lead the Finance function, providing high quality financial management support and leadership to the organisation.

The MHRA enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research. The MHRA’s Finance function is structured in line with the Government Finance profession standard operating model around Strategic Finance, Finance Business Partnering and Business Planning, Financial Operations and Financial Control. All five of these are the responsibility of the Deputy Director - Finance. You will report into and work closely with an outstanding CFO, who is the hiring manager for this post.

As Deputy Director - Finance, you will operate as leader with proven strategic vision, a focus on delivering value for money and a strong commitment to developing talent and building financial capability across the organisation. You will also demonstrate commercial acumen and be capable of making a major contribution to the organisation’s strategic planning and to driving change.

The Deputy Director - Finance will attend the Agency’s Audit & Risk Assurance Committee (ARAC) and support the Chief Finance Officer and the Chair of ARAC in taking forward its agenda as a key sub-committee of the Board. They will also Chair the Resources Committee that monitors financial management during the year reporting upwards to the Executive Committee.

CCAB or CIMA professional accounting qualification with significant post qualification experience.
A proven ability to lead a finance function and contribute to the wider leadership of a complex organisation, with the capacity to drive good financial practice through the organisation.
Strong strategic analysis and planning skills combined with excellent networks and an ability to make things happen, whilst being able to influence decision making at senior executive levels.
Excellent commercial skills and a proven ability to develop talent and build sustainable high performance.
High level of proficiency with MS Office and familiarity with other software tools that can assist finance teams deliver effectively for their customers.
