Job Description:

The Senior Manager, Data Science will lead a team focused on defining and creating datasets and covariates for a Virtual Cell model that understands cellular functions at a molecular level and predicts impacts of genetic or environmental changes. You will collaborate with Science Program, Data Engineering, ML Engineering, and AI Research teams to generate and utilize datasets, managing a team of data scientists responsible for dataset quality, delivery, and strategic design to support biological AI modeling.

What You'll Do

  1. Manage a team of data scientists to create high-quality, standardized datasets for biological AI modeling and open-source publishing.
  2. Establish systems and processes to ensure agility and responsiveness to evolving needs in AI biology.
  3. Define a data vision for the Virtual Cell Model, build consensus with cross-functional partners, and guide incremental realization.
  4. Identify new data generation opportunities and oversee the delivery of data products.
  5. Collaborate with ML engineers, AI Researchers, and Data Engineers to deliver datasets for training state-of-the-art generative AI models.
  6. Work with engineers, product managers, UX designers, and data scientists to publish datasets that accelerate community modeling progress.

What You'll Bring

  1. Over 10 years of experience with biological data, including imaging and sequencing modalities.
  2. Experience delivering large data products with sequencing and imaging components.
  3. At least 5 years managing hybrid/remote teams.
  4. Expertise in big data extraction, transport, loading, databases, standardization, and validation.
  5. Strong fundamentals in statistical reasoning and machine learning.
  6. Experience with image and sequence data analysis and QC best practices.
  7. Experience with processing and orchestration pipelines.
  8. Excellent communication skills.
  9. Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and domains.
  10. Experience working in multidisciplinary teams (engineering, product, design).

Compensation

The Redwood City, CA base pay range is $241,000 - $362,000, with new hires typically starting at the lower end. Adjustments are made based on geographic location and experience.
