Bereavement Counsellor Required: Sheffield, Yorkshire

Hours: 22.5 Hours

Are you a compassionate and qualified counsellor with a passion for supporting individuals through loss and grief?

St Luke’s Hospice is looking for a skilled and empathetic Bereavement Services Counsellor to join our dedicated team. In this meaningful role, you’ll work closely with bereaved families, friends, and children, offering therapeutic support during one of life’s most challenging times. You’ll also play a key role in supporting our incredible volunteer team and shaping the continued development of our bereavement services.

What you’ll be doing:

1. Providing one-to-one counselling to bereaved individuals, maintaining your own caseload and ensuring high-quality, ethical practice.
2. Supporting with initial assessments, case allocation, and early intervention phone calls.
3. Helping to develop and deliver group bereavement support sessions.
4. Supporting and supervising bereavement volunteers, including involvement in training and development.
5. Contributing to the ongoing growth and improvement of the Bereavement Service.
6. Carrying out administrative tasks, including accurate record-keeping using our Infoflex system.
7. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the hospice and representing the service at internal meetings.
8. Sharing knowledge and offering educational sessions around bereavement for staff and volunteers.

What we’re looking for:

1. A qualified counsellor with current accreditation or registration with BACP (or equivalent professional body).
2. Experience working with grief and loss, ideally within a healthcare or hospice setting.
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a sensitive and empathetic approach.
4. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy and varied caseload.
5. A team player who is passionate about delivering high standards of care and support.
6. Confidence using basic IT systems and clinical record software (training provided).
