What will you do on the programme?

Join our Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Engineering Graduate Programme and contribute to delivering some of the UK’s most impactful engineering projects. You’ll support work across the engineering lifecycle – from technology innovation and concept design to production, commissioning, in-service support, and decommissioning. Projects may include designing cutting-edge submarines, converting military vehicles, refurbishing ships, advancing next-generation nuclear power plants, and building safer, more efficient rail networks.

You’ll apply your engineering knowledge to meaningful projects, collaborating with experienced professionals to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions.

How is the programme structured?

Over two years, you’ll rotate through placements every three to six months, exploring different projects and teams. Some rotations may be at different locations, helping you build your professional network and understand how the business operates. You’ll build a strong foundation in electrical, control and instrumentation engineering, with increasing responsibilities such as leading small teams and overseeing projects. You’ll have the chance to align placements with your interests and career goals to gain relevant experience.

What do you need to apply?

• We accept degrees in Electrical Engineering, Control and Instrumentation, Robotics, Mechatronics, Control Systems, Aerospace, Avionics, and Software. Preference is for degrees accredited by the relevant institution.
• Security Clearance/Trade Control: You must be able to achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) clearance. Some programmes may be limited by place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency. Details at GOV.UK.

Where will you be based?

Places on the Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Engineering graduate programme for Autumn 2026 are available in Plymouth. Based at Devonport, Plymouth, you’ll be part of a team that supports Royal Navy vessels. Placements at different sites across the UK are possible. Agile working is supported, but on-site presence is expected several times a week. Flexibility and openness to relocation are encouraged, and personal circumstances will be considered when arranging placements.
