About the business unit

The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. We provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle—from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. We help deliver the energy transition globally with our clients.

About the role

Our office-based department provides Civil and Structural expertise across Substation, Overhead Line, and Cable projects. Our projects include feasibility, consenting, outline and detailed design.

We are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer/Civil engineer to join our growing Energy Team based in Cardiff. The role will span a diverse portfolio of work with opportunities for advancement within the team. Although the team is Cardiff based, we regularly bid for projects across the UK and overseas, giving exposure to cutting edge projects.

The selected candidate will carry out work on Energy Generation, Transmission and Distribution sectors on wind farm connections, converter station, high voltage substation, solar farm, overhead line, cable and hydrogen projects, fulfilling tasks including:

Responsibilities

  • Project Management.
  • Design Coordination.
  • Client liaison.
  • Proposal Writing.
  • Scheme Costings.
  • Front End Engineering Design (FEED).
  • Preparation of drawings for use in planning applications and tender packages.
  • Detailed Civil/Structural Design.
  • Cable Routing Design.
  • Design Coordination across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Preparation of Specifications.
  • Condition and Structural Assessment of existing structures.

About you

Desired Expertise:

  • Structural engineering design
  • Access and highways design
  • Earthworks assessments
  • Flood risk and drainage design
  • Overhead line and cable routing design
  • Project management
  • Design coordination

Prospective Candidates Should:

  • Be specialists or generalists (expertise in all above areas not required)
  • Demonstrate a willingness to tackle new challenges
  • Confidently handle tasks with prior experience
  • Exhibit strong written communication skills, including report writing
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be prepared for client-facing responsibilities and liaising with clients and contractors both on-site and over the phone

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Working towards Chartership or recently Chartered with ICE or IStructE

Senior Engineer Role:

  • Lead project teams
  • Mentor junior engineers

Additional Requirements:

  • There would be possibilities of short-term site visits to meet with clients and contractors.
