Overview

Lecturer in Civil Engineering at Buckinghamshire New University, High Wycombe. This is a full-time permanent role with a salary of £38,784 – £43,482.

We are seeking a Lecturer in Civil Engineering with research expertise in structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, and transport engineering. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality teaching, research, and knowledge exchange, ensuring an excellent student learning experience, in alignment with the University’s DRIVE values.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a first-class student experience and undertake impactful research and knowledge exchange activities.
  • Practice an inclusive approach and support building an inclusive university community where people can be themselves.
  • Contribute to knowledge through refereed conference outputs and peer-reviewed publications; embed research within teaching and curriculum; contribute to research impact.
  • Undertake research with external partners, communities, professional bodies and/or employers; contribute to REF and KEF and internal/external research strategies.
  • Undertake research-informed teaching, manage curriculum delivery and quality, and contribute to innovative pedagogy and digital learning.
  • Deliver tutoring, pastoral support, and placements/internships; engage with professional bodies and employers to enhance student outcomes.
  • Participate in funded educational projects as required; provide effective feedback and guidance to students.
  • Engage in professional development, Open Days, partnerships, and public engagement activities.
  • Contribute to income generation and to an inclusive teaching and learning culture.

Qualifications & Experience

  • PhD in Civil Engineering or a related field; evidence of expertise in structural analysis and design, soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and transportation systems.
  • Experience in teaching, curriculum development, and student supervision; Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or membership with ICE, IStructE, or CIHT is advantageous.
  • Growing research profile with publications and potential for securing funding; experience in supervising research and mentoring students.
  • Ability to collaborate with industry partners and engage in research-led teaching; strong communication and teamwork skills.

Skills & Requirements

  • Excellent presentation and teaching delivery skills; digitally able and proficient with MS tools.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to work across multiple campuses; willingness to travel as required.
  • A willingness to work in off-site locations and across all University campuses; available for Open Days (may include Saturdays).
  • Be prepared to deliver a micro-teach as part of the interview process.
