Overview

Civil Engineering Technician – ONC/HNC (BEng Mentorship Programme Available) – ELB Recruit is representing an established environmental and engineering consultancy seeking Civil Engineering Technicians with ONC/HNC qualifications—or those looking to progress onto a BEng mentorship programme—to join their growing team. The focus is primarily on drainage design, with opportunities to gain experience in highways, pavement design, and earthworks strategy. The role is based in Manchester city centre, with flexible hybrid working arrangements. The client has a strong reputation for delivering sustainable and climate-resilient infrastructure solutions, and operates across the UK with a focus on innovation and staff development.

The role offers a BEng Mentorship Programme for career progression and exposure to nationally significant projects.

Role Responsibilities

  • Support the design and delivery of civil and drainage engineering projects
  • Assist engineers with technical design tasks and calculations
  • Participate in site-based activities and surveys
  • Contribute to project documentation, tender submissions, and reports
  • Develop skills in SuDS design, adoptable drainage networks, flood defence schemes, and fluvial engineering

This is a hands-on role, ideal for technicians motivated to learn, take ownership of challenges, and progress toward a BEng degree and eventual professional registration.

What We’re Looking For

  • ONC or HNC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Some exposure to drainage or civil engineering projects
  • Familiarity with drainage modelling software (e.g., MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage)
  • Knowledge of SuDS principles and adoptable drainage network design
  • Awareness of CDM regulations, safety in design, and sustainable engineering practices
  • Understanding of the Specification for Highway Works
  • Experience with Civil 3D, AutoCAD, or earthworks modelling software

Why Join This Consultancy

  • BEng Mentorship Programme for career progression
  • Opportunity to work on nationally significant infrastructure projects
  • Supportive, collaborative, and employee-focused culture
  • Focus on sustainable, climate-resilient solutions
  • Flexible hybrid working arrangements

This is an excellent opportunity for ambitious Civil Engineering Technicians seeking to develop their skills and progress toward a BEng and professional engineering qualification.
