Project Overview:
Bechtel is seeking to work with a major Indian corporation to provide Project Management Consultant (PMC) Services and Engineering Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) Services for offsites and utilities (OSBL) for a multi-billion-dollar upgrade/expansion of their existing petrochemical facilities in India. The PMC Services will be led out of India with personnel deployed in the Mumbai region, the project sites in India, as well as several key contractor locations across India. The EPCM Services for OSBL will be led out of Bechtel’s India offices.

Position Overview:
Career growth opportunity for a self-motivated, high performing Lead Process Engineer with PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) and/or CPVC (Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride) experience seeking technical/leadership challenges in the process design of a multi-billion-dollar upgrade/expansion. The Lead Process Engineer for PVC/CPVC should have a good understanding of PVC/CPVC facility design and/or operation.

Position Summary:

1. Reviews Engineering Contractor’s process engineering deliverables according to a set engineering design criteria utilizing approved engineering procedures, practices, and standards.
2. Reviews Engineering Contractor’s designs, studies, reports, and proposals.
3. Work with other PMC lead discipline engineers to ensure that all interfaces between disciplines are clearly defined and recorded.
4. Coordinate the detailed design review of the facility and monitor the status of Engineering Contractor’s Process Engineering deliverables with a focus on meeting schedule due dates.
5. Reviews Engineering Contractor’s scope and work plan for the process discipline for all phases of the project and makes sure all specifications are met and standards followed.
6. Responsible for ensuring the delivery of project deliverables (PFDs/UFDs, HMB, equipment sizing, selection and specification, PSVs and flare system sizing and specification, etc.) within the agreed contractual requirements.
7. Ensures design defects in the Engineering Contractor’s design are identified to maintain the technical quality of all process deliverables issued by the Engineering Contractor.
8. Is involved in complex technical discussions with Owner, Engineering Contractor, licensors, and suppliers to validate technical decisions.
9. Identifies issues (problems, value improvement opportunities) with Engineering Contractor’s design and helps clarify areas of complexity during all phases of the engineering design work.
10. Understands multi-disciplinary technical issues and can advise on innovative technical solutions to resolve these issues.

Responsibilities:

1. Review and oversight of overall plant and unit simulations and/or H&MBs.
2. Review and oversight of Process Flow Diagram (PFDs) and Utility Flow Diagrams (UFDs) being able to explain selected flow configuration.
3. Review and oversight of equipment sizes including vessels, columns, heat exchanger requirements, and packaged equipment specifications.
4. Participation and input at major reviews such as PFD/P&ID reviews, HAZOPs, and 3D model reviews, representing the process engineering discipline and being able to assess and challenge Engineering Contractor’s Process Design on behalf of the Owner.
5. Review and oversight of relief load narratives, relief load calculations, load summaries, and relief valve datasheets.
6. Review and oversight of offsites and utility design including consumptions and the overall utility summary.
7. Review and oversight of alarm and trip setpoint and process safety time calculations.
8. Review and oversight of complex technical studies and resolution of technical issues on the project.

Skills and Qualifications:

1. A recognized bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 15 years’ experience in Process Engineering in EPC and/or the operating industry, with considerable experience in process engineering leadership role and PVC/CPVC experience in design and/or operation.
2. Excellent understanding of chemical engineering principles of heat transfer, vapor-liquid equilibria, mass transfer, and thermodynamics, and their general application to process design.
3. Excellent knowledge of technical theory, engineering principles, good engineering practices, and how to apply them for design execution.
4. Extensive experience with major regulations and industry codes and standards affecting standard design, quality, or processes.
5. Extensive experience in relief calculation methodologies and industry codes and standards applicable to pressure relief design.
6. Knowledgeable in process design of equipment, including vessels, columns, heat exchangers, and package process specifications for equipment and control valves.
7. Experience with process configuration and optimization studies to increase product yield, reduce utility consumption (steam, power, cooling water) and reduce/mitigate flare loads.
8. Demonstrated experience with process simulation and automation.
9. Demonstrated experience in all deliverables, tasks, and activities listed in the position summary and responsibilities sections.

Assignment conditions:
If you are successful, Bechtel will organize your relocation and logistics (Indian visas, travel, and provision of accommodation in Mumbai). If you are open to relocation: We will provide accommodation for you whilst you are in the country (single or accompanied by spouse). If you prefer rotation: Our single status rotational schedule is an option for you. This means that you would mobilize and spend 10 weeks working in the country and then you would go home to the UK for 2 weeks and so on for the project duration.
